A person is more than the sum of their joints.OA Dr. Nicolas Haffner — treatment philosophy
Conservative before surgical
Conservative, manual therapy is at the heart of every treatment. Surgery is the last — never the first — option.
Cause rather than symptom
Not the individual symptom, but its cause and the wider connections throughout the entire musculoskeletal system.
Surgery with care
If a procedure is appropriate, it is carefully prepared and performed in a tissue-sparing manner — after open discussion of all alternatives and a joint decision.

A thorough assessment finds the cause — not just the symptom.
When surgery is the right path.
Avoiding surgery is always the first goal. If a procedure is nevertheless appropriate, it is planned after thorough assessment and a joint decision — tissue-sparing and using modern techniques, from joint replacement to minimally invasive arthroscopy. The operations take place at the Confraternität and Goldenes Kreuz private hospitals in Vienna.
Meniscus Surgery
Arthroscopic treatment of meniscus damage — partial meniscectomy, meniscus repair or root reconstruction.
Cruciate Ligament Surgery
Ligament reconstruction, refixation or conservative therapy — depending on age, tear pattern and individual demands.
Plica Resection
Arthroscopic removal of an irritated synovial fold in plica syndrome.
Cartilage Surgery
Targeted treatment of localised cartilage damage — joint-preserving, with modern techniques.
Axis Corrections
Osteotomy for knock-knee or bow-leg — relieves the joint and delays osteoarthritis.
Hip Replacement
Implantation of a hip endoprosthesis in advanced coxarthrosis — minimally invasive via the anterolateral approach.
Knee Replacement
Total or partial replacement — matched to the extent and location of the wear.
Foot Surgery
Surgical correction of hallux valgus, hallux rigidus and hammer toes as well as other deformities.
Conservative where possible, surgical where necessary. Every procedure is preceded by careful assessment and an honest discussion of all alternatives. The goal is always the solution that brings the most quality of life in the long term.

OA Dr. Nicolas Haffner, MBA
As a physician, I see my task as perceiving and treating each person in their entirety.
Contrary to the general trend of specialising only in narrow sub-areas, my focus is not on the individual symptom but on its cause and the connections within the musculoskeletal system. The dual training as a specialist in trauma surgery and in orthopaedics, complemented by six years of osteopathy, allows me to develop the individually appropriate therapy for each patient — from conservative treatment to surgical intervention.
